Economical Hybrid Storage Leverages Commodity Hardware

Cloudian at AWS re:Invent 2014

Developers are enthusiastic about moving to the cloud, but regulatory compliance concerns cause many organizations to go slow with broad based transfer of production workloads to the cloud. In addition, storage demands continue to accelerate, with the biggest growth in unstructured data which is said to be growing at about eight times the rate of traditional block storage requirements.  However, many companies cannot move everything, and for what ever reason must maintain certain apps and data on premises.

Cloudian HyperStore is an off-the-shelf software platform that is ready to use allowing customers to deploy cloud storage services without integration hassle or lengthy install times. Applications and data can be allocated to local commodity hardware, to the public cloud or to a private or managed cloud service.

Cloudian’s product tiers storage to the cloud, allowing developers to burst into the cloud using Amazon Web Services S3, but reserving local on-premises storage for other application workloads. The service is extremely inexpensive at around one cent per GB per month.
