Hey, current or potential PlayStation 3 owner. Yes, you there. Do you like God of War? I know, rhetorical question. Well then you probably already know about the newest title from Sony, God of War: Ascension. (Sounds just like Microsoft’s attempt of the same game, entitled Ascend: New Gods, right?)
We got to see some intense single-player action on stage during the Sony press event and let me tell you that if you haven’t even played the series yet, you will want to with the information and gameplay that I have for you after the break.
In this edition, you are still Kratos, except now everything is bigger and badder before. Now, we also will dive into Kratos’ past sins as the story tells of his journey to redeem himself and break free from Ares bond. In the gameplay we got to see, the battles get even crazier with the new tether system that lets you fling your opponents whereever you want, all while keeping your blade weapon active. You can even take the enemies’ weapons to use against them. Even better, switching between your main blades and secondary weapons is even easier and can now happen mid-combo.
A key new feature added is the Life Cycle system. You now are able to pause, rewind and speed up time in order to take advantage of your surroundings. Figure out puzzles, put a permanent stop on enemies and use the environment to move your way through the map.
There is also, for the first time, a multiplayer experience for the game. Sony has said that this will not take away anything away from the single-player game though and that,
Overall, I’m really excited for the newest God of War and I have really high hopes for it. I just hope it can live up to expectations of things always needing to be one notch higher than where they were before. The game comes out in March of next year and I can’t wait to get it in my hands.
